Victoria has been a lifelong dancer with 13 years of ballet training and 12 years of bellydance performance and teaching experience. She studied at both Arabesque Academy and Hip Kik in Toronto and remains a member of Hip Kik Bellydance Troupe. Victoria has performed and taught extensively in throughout Ontario at a variety of events and venues, but she's especially thrilled to now share her skills with her new home of Huntsville. Victoria's specialty is Egyptian bellydance but she is also known for her experimental and creative fusions of bellydance with mythological themes, animal movement, theatrical effects, and non-traditional musical and dance forms.
Some questions and answers:
Who can bellydance?
Bellydance is for everyone. That includes all body shapes, all ages, and all abilities. However, just like any exercise, if you have an injury or a condition that may prevent you from participating normally in physical activities, please consult your physician first. That said, most bellydance movements can be adjusted to accommodate many different needs.
What should I wear?
For pants, most students wear leggings or yoga pants. It's important that the instructor can see your leg movements so skirts are not recommended unless they are above the knee. You are welcome to wear midriff bearing tops but it's not necessary. It's useful to see your stomach and chest movements however, so most students wear a snugly fitting t-shirt or tank-top. We dance in bare feet but if you prefer, you can wear non-slip ballet-style slippers. If you have a hip scarf or coin belt you can bring that to class, but Victoria will also have coin belts you can buy or borrow.
What will we do in class?
Along with a stretching warm-up and cool-down, we will learn basic posture, alignment and positions. We will also learn and build on different bellydance moves. We'll then put our new moves together into a choreography over the 8 week session.
If you have any other questions that aren't answered here, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Victoria.
Yoga Rehab with Monica Larade, RMT
The Yoga Rehab classes and workshops are a great opportunity to introduce you to the practice of yoga and learn techniques based on Massage Therapy that will provide instant relief.
The Massage Therapy techniques will be focused on releasing the muscle tissue and fascia that is most often restricted. The yoga elements will be aimed at realigning the imbalances and creating strength within the supportive core. Attending an orthopedic assessment and Massage Therapy session with Monica is encouraged to assist in deepening your understanding of what your body needs to heal the injuries and imbalances present.
It's time to acknowledge the pain messages you've been receiving and make them an experience from your past.
Having spent fourteen years working within the orthopedic rehabilitation field, Monica is a committed therapist and instructor. Her vocational path has led her to working with people of all ages and abilities (and some pets), as a member of physiotherapy and chiropractic teams. She loves the integration of Massage Therapy and Yoga! Monica looks forward to meeting you and sharing the amazing healing that can happen for you when you welcome yoga into your life. Namaste!
